WORKSHOP 1 - Effective Cover Letters and Resumes
Lecture Theater 1 - 28th August 2014 (11am - 1pm)
This workshop was handled by Ms. Fiona Yung, the Leadership Programme Human Resource Manage of GE Malaysia on how to write an effective cover letter and resume when trying to apply for an internship placement or a job in the future. Here, she also gave us some useful tips on how we can impress our readers.
WORKSHOP 2 - Internship 101 CSC
Lecture Theater 1 - 28th August 2014 (4pm - 6pm)
This workshop was conducted by Taylor's University Career Services Centre (CSC) to provide a guideline for students who are going to do their internship. In this workshop, we were introduced to a platform called 'SEEDs' where students can use this website to download useful samples resumes and cover letters. In addition to that, SEEDs is also a platform for us to apply for our internship. From the website, we will be able to access the list of companies that we can do our internship in (mainly for student using university placement (UP)). Besides SEEDs, the CSC counselor, Mr. Khairul also the deadlines and some preparations that were needed to ensure that we all did out application correctly.
WORKSHOP 3 - Interview Skills by L'ORÉAL
Lecture Theater 1 - 29th August 2014 (11am - 1pm)
Initially, finance students were supposed to attend the workshop called "Interview Skills: Get Hired!" by Teleos Global Limited conducted by Mr. Ivan Hong, however, since both workshops were about interview skills, I thought of attending the one conducted by L'oréal instead as it the CSC said we could sit in any one of the workshops as long as we attended. A representative from L'oréal came and conducted the workshop giving us tips and techniques on acing an interview and get hired. As an interviewer, he had met many interviewees and he shared with us some of the common mistakes interviewees made. During the last half an hour of the workshop, he called for volunteers who were interested in doing an interview on the spot in the lecture hall itself and after each interview he would comment on their performance and areas of improvement.
WORKSHOP 4 - Professional Image & Executive Presence
Lecture Theater 1 - 29th August 2014 (4pm - 6pm)
This workshop was conducted by Ms. Kelly Abdul Aziz from Ernst & Young to stress on the importance of having a professional image and appearance. A professional image and apprearance is essential as we can give other a good impressions about ourselves. Not only that, looking professional will help us to feel professional which would build up our confidence when answering questions to show that we are sure on what we are doing especially during interviews. One important reason about professional image and appearance is that we also show how much we respect our job and also the people we are dealing with - we care about what they think.
WORKSHOP 5 - Ethics and Etiquette at work
Lecture Theater 12 - 13th November 2014 (2pm - 3.30pm)
This workshop was conducted by Ms. Elaine Hong from BDO Malaysia focusing on EQ (Emotional Intelligence), MQ (Moral Intelligence) and BQ (Body Intelligence) at work. During the talk, she shared a lot about her experience interviewing candidates and also experience in dealing with her employees and how EQ, MQ and BQ is important at work. She also mention about how having creativity and being thrustworthy is a very important value every person should have at work and also out of work.
WORKSHOP 6 - Ace your Internship
Lecture Theater 12 - 20th November 2014 (4pm - 5.30pm)
This workshop was conducted by Ms. Fang Li Wei from Deloitte Malaysia sharing about some key points on how to be the choosen one when applying for an internship placement. Besides that, she also shared about some do's and don'ts when working in a company - some common mistaked made by interns and some plus points that can help us get a good evaluation at the end of out internship period. Before the workshop ended, our Programme Director, Ms. Malar gave us a final briefing regarding our internship - the deadlines, portfolio submission, what is needed in our portfolio and etc.
