  REFLECTIONS - JOURNAL ENTRIES

WEEK 1 - WEEK 2

First week coming back to KPMG , many things has changed compared to my internship here last year. Firstly, all the interns or they call us VT (Vacation Trainee) had to go for a briefing and this year's briefing was so different as they made it more official were all of us gathered in a big meeting room and everything was so scheduled and planned compare to last year's briefing session. Then going back to BPS (Business Performance Serivices), it was good seeing that there were still so many fimilar faces in the department and as well some new people and VTs. Basically, the first half day was spent on briefings and chit chatting and catching up with the associates.

As for the first week, I spent my first 2 days doing e-Trainings that is required by the firm. This e-Training includes tests regarding ethics, money laundering, company policies, etc. As soon as I'm done with the tests, I was assigned to a project manager where she briefed me about the on-going project I was supposed to be helping out. However, the project currently has enough people so she assigned me to help another associate regarding another project where he was working on a interim presentation.

Because I was not assigned specifically to a project yet, so the first 2 weeks of my internship I was just helping out the associates that needed my help. Now, going into my third week, I would most probably be doing other assignments and hopefully I would get absorbed into a specific project soon.

However, I felt a bit lost these 2 weeks as I was just helping out different seniors on different projects as compared to my previous internship here, I was assigned to a project where I worked very closely directly under the Project Manager and one of his associate as he did not have enough people to assist him during that period. Therefore, I am still looking forward to be assigned into a project.

Note to self: It is very important to understand the context of research to be able to present it efficiently

All I had to help in the interim presentation was some research work regarding corporate taxes among ASEAN. It was quite complicated as my I needed to gather information about the corporate taxes and the incentive available in each ASEAN country and as well as how it applies to different industries. This research will be used as a benchmark for their current project as they are helping their client who intend to build an industrial park so we would need to gather the tax information. Of course, there are other areas where research needs to be done but I was only assigned to work on the tax area.
