REFLECTIONS - JOURNAL ENTRIES

WEEK 7 - WEEK 8

Note to self: Embrace every task given to me and take every opportunity to learn new things because it might be useful in the future.

90% of my time in office these 2 weeks was spent doing data entries for a survey conducted to do data analysis for one of the project's final report. There were a total of 5000 surveys sent out to different states and areas and we had to complete the data entry within 2 weeks. There were 3 of us who were allocated to this task and all we had to do was to ensure that our entry method was the same using an excel sheet and then we had to sync the data at the end of all the entries.

Surprisingly, we could finish entering all the surveys within one week and everything went very smoothly. My highest record was around 600 surveys a day. Doing data entry, I've learn many new shortcut keys in excel and also data management. I think this is a good experience as I get to learn a new skill (excel knowledge) where I can make use of when doing my final year project paper as I would then have to manage and sort out a lot of data.

Since we finished the data entry early, I has nothing much allocated for me. So I asked around the other associates if they needed help. So I helped one of the seniors to prepare his presentation slides as he would be fying off to Penang for a presentation to talk about the ASEAN Tax and Global Tax benchmark (which part of it was the research I did during my first 3-4 weeks of internship).

Although learning about powerpoint presentations does not directly help me in my studies, but I definitely benefited alot from this task as it helps me in building my hard skills. Although most people focus on soft skills nowadays, hard skills does play an important role as well.

Getting familiar and knowing the shortcuts and special functions with excel, word, and powerpoint presentation, I can work more efficiently and present my findings more effectively on these softwares whether at work or even in my studies.
